I visited ONIBUS COFFEE, which has been one of the first to promote the appeal of specialty coffee in Japan, with the concept of “enriching cities and lives through coffee.” ONIBUS COFFEE handles everything from purchasing beans to roasting, and serves coffee that emphasizes sustainability and traceability.

In this interview, I spoke with representative Mr. Atsushi Sakao about the reason why he asked us to produce their original tableware and how they feels to use.
   Mr. Sakao recalls that when he was considering making original tableware, he asked us to make it for them, considering the design, ease of use, and compatibility with ONIBUS COFFEE. Our first collaboration was in 2016, and this time he asked us to make original cups and saucers to be used at all ONIBUS COFFEE shops. From the several shapes we proposed, Mr. Sakao chose a soft shape that would never get boring, with rounded edges and a sense of security.

“The handle fits comfortably in your hand, and the curves of the cup feel very nice; it’s soothing when you hold it in your hand. Also, because of the pronounced curves, I think you can enjoy the aroma of coffee as you drink it. I think it’s a design that you’ll grow to love the more you use it and spend time with it. Another part of its charm is that the glaze on each cup has a different look,” he said.
